About

I have over twenty years of experience teaching music to students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds. I love to teach both children and adults! My goals for my students are to become proficient on their instrument, to become well-rounded musicians by experiencing music from different genres, and most of all to enjoy making music. While assisting students in reaching these goals, I am mindful that each student is an individual, and tailor my instruction accordingly.

Contact

I am a teacher and a singer-songwriter with a passion for all things musical. I have shared this love with many students over the years through teaching private and group guitar lessons and co-directing a high school concert band. My goals for my students include becoming proficient on their instrument and finding personal satisfaction and joy in their playing & performing. I also like to give my students the opportunity to do some recording in the studio as we are equipped with recording equipment.

Payment

A bill is issued at the first lesson of the month and payment is due at the following lesson. We accept cash or cheques.

Materials

Each student must be equipped with the following:

*Piano or suitable keyboard (with weighted keys) at home. (Check with us about other instruments.)

*Three-ring binder containing dividers

*Repertoire - we will purchase the appropriate books and bill you for them at the first lesson

*Metronome - intermediate and senior students

Practicing

Studying an instrument requires a time commitment that goes beyond the weekly lesson; this is called "practice time". Students will be given a practice chart at every lesson. This will list all tasks expected during the week, and provide the student with an organized method of tracking their practice progress. Students are expected to practice at least five out of seven days, and should record their progress on the chart given.

How long should a student practice?

We believe that quality is better than quantity. We don't think that setting a timer for a specific number of minutes is necessarily constructive. The expectation is that our students work through their assignments for the week (as detailed on their charts) thoroughly at each practice, following our guidelines for number of repetitions, etc. If they do this, they can expect to progress and move toward success on their instrument.

Missed Lessons

There are no refunds for missed lessons. If you wish to make up a missed lesson due to illness, we will make ourselves available on four Saturdays throughout the school year. The specific dates will be announced in an email and on Facebook each quarter. You may then contact us to book a time.

Tuition

Tuition will be paid in four equal quarterly installments, or in two equal semester installments, according to your preference. A bill with a payment schedule will be issued at the first lesson. We will send out a reminder email the week before each payment is due.

Adult Students

We welcome you to come and learn an instrument with us. It is never too late to start, and music is a worthwhile and enriching endeavour at any age. Our overall studio policy is flexible for you (eg. You will be billed at the end of the month for only the lessons you were able to attend) and we will do our best to accommodate your unique schedule. Daytime lesson slots are available.
